Solopreneur Independence

“Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” is a popular phrase from the Declaration of Independence. Sounds good to me!

Solopreneur Independence

As a solopreneur, we have a unique opportunity to create our destiny. In general, we are risk-takers, out-of-the-box thinkers, and problem solvers. Working the common “9 to 5” is just not acceptable. In fact, many entrepreneurs say they are “unemployable!”

When you see someone that has business in their blood, it’s interesting to watch them try to conform to what’s “acceptable.” They always revert back to what they know and where they excel, which is finding comfort in independence and leadership.

There is an unspoken bond amongst the tribe of female solopreneurs - an “I get you” nod that comes with the title.

Self-rule separates us from the pack

In the quest for creative independence and self-reliability, being the boss has its advantages. You are “learning on the job” so to speak - gleaning valuable input from your mistakes with the quest to improve. I find those are the greatest lessons of all because you’ve experienced it first hand (and usually the most painful lessons have the longest impact).

However, the mature business owner actually relishes the opportunity to tweak and perfect. Adopting a Kaizen Philosophy (never-ending, constant improvement) allows us to look at the mission in our mess and use our mistakes as guideposts and fuel to propel ourselves forward.

Independent thinking = authentic living

This is opposite to group thought, described by dictionary.com as “the lack of individual creativity, or of a sense of personal responsibility, that is sometimes characteristic of group interaction.” We see this phenomenon a lot in business with the popularity of swipe files and cookie-cutter templates.

When a brand really steps out boldly, independently, and confidently in their vision, it shows! Who comes to mind as an innovative thought leader to you? What do you admire about their style and/or message?

Becoming a trendsetter (not influenced by social norms or satisfied with the status quo) allows us to follow our intuition and use that as a guide for the next best step for our life and business.

I especially see 2020 as the year women are rising, setting boundaries, and getting their voices heard.

Freedom…a true gift

We have a lot to be grateful for when it comes to freedom. In the US, we have the right to freedom of speech, press, and religion to name a few.

As an entrepreneur, we also earn freedom of choice. We get to choose our mission, products, work schedule, pay, and whether to hire staff or not. We have the freedom to change and adjust as we see fit. We can be independent and free from the stress of climbing the corporate ladder, the hassle of employee competition, and the fear of job loss.

Of course, being a solopreneur isn’t a cakewalk. However, taking a moment to honor the multitude of benefits that come with the privilege can be extremely gratifying.

If you’re not happy, then change

Not being under someone or something’s rule is extremely liberating.

At any given time, if we are unhappy about something, we have the power to change it. That’s amazing! Really stop to think about that statement; If you are unhappy, then change.

When it comes to change, we have an abundance of resources and self-development knowledge that provide the tools to transform our lives.

Some people find freedom through physical expression like yoga, dance, exercise, swimming, etc. While others cultivate joy through gratitude, journaling, meditation, selfless service and the like.

Whichever path works for you, always remember that you and you alone create your destiny. You have the power to rewire your neural pathways in your brain. You hold the remote control when it comes to which station you are going to play every day.

Will you choose Life FM?

So today, I celebrate solopreneur independence. I celebrate freedom of choice, change, individual expression, and self-reliability. I celebrate you, your desire to grow your business and the unique gifts that you offer the world.

What do you celebrate?

Until next time…breathe joy,
Kc
