7 Tips To Overcoming Fear So You Can Grow Your Business Today

blog business tips mindset

Are you a forever learner thirsty for any advantage that could help increase revenue in your business? OR Maybe you’re on the fence about creating your new business but fear, overwhelm, and self-doubt are holding you back?

I’ve been an entrepreneur for the majority of my life, so I’m very familiar with the common stumbling blocks. It took me an entire year to muster up the courage to press the GO LIVE button on Facebook! Not to mention, endless days of plodding through technology learning curves (#pullyourhairout).

However, by sticking with it, I’ve had a lot of practice overcoming those nasty jigs and jags along the solopreneur journey. That’s why I’m passionate about saving you time, energy, stress, and financial drain.

Fear sucks, but it doesn’t have to!

Yep! It’s as easy and plain as that. Fear can hold us back from putting ourselves out there, being authentic, and creating products and services for our ideal client (who’s really waiting for them)!

Here are 7 tips to eliminate fear so you can grow your business today:

  1. Recognize
  2. Honor
  3. Focus on how you want to feel
  4. Make a plan
  5. Work towards your goal daily
  6. Keep going
  7. Engage holistically

1. RECOGNIZE

Recognizing a need is truly the first step. It’s easy to keep doing what we’ve always done. Sometimes it takes a push (and some tough love) to see what’s right in front of us. Sometimes, we need to take a step back from our life and just observe.

If you can relate to any of the following, then it’s time to change things up:

πŸ‘‰ Your current website makes you want to cringe.

πŸ‘‰ Your copy doesn’t reflect who you are now.

πŸ‘‰ You’ve honed down your craft, narrowed your niche, and specialized your skill, but your product offerings haven’t changed as well.

πŸ‘‰ Your Canva graphics just aren’t cutting it anymore.

πŸ‘‰ Nothing looks or feels like a cohesive brand, but more like a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

πŸ‘‰ You’re making some money but not sure why it’s not consistent and a heck of a lot more!

Are you ready?

2. HONOR

Honor where you’ve been. This is a big one. Do you ever give yourself credit for all the effort, work, and rework you’ve done up until this point in your business?

It’s more common to feel behind the eight ball, beat ourselves up for not doing more, and continue to feel less than perfect.

Take the time to journal your wins (big and small). This simple task will give you fuel to keep going.

I like to use a “Goodness Within” jar. Every week, I jot down my top accomplishments and wins on a piece of paper and pop it in a cute jar. Whenever I’m feeling like I should be doing more or am not making progress fast enough, I open the lid and get reminded of all that’s been achieved.

It inspires me to keep moving forward.

3. FOCUS ON HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL

I’m a big fan of Danielle LaPorte, the queen of looking at your desired feelings. She says, “The journey has to feel like the way you want the destination to feel.”

For example, if you want to feel free more than anything, than focus every thought, word, and deed around freedom. Brad Sugar, the popular success coach, promotes the formula Do x Be = Have.

Combining the two would look something like this:

  • Define your primary desire — how you want to feel
  • Be absorbed in the “why” so that you are crystal clear on the results of your desire
  • Do what someone who has already accomplished that desire does
  • Be that desire in motion on a daily — walk your talk, craft your destiny
  • Have that desire manifest from a dream into your reality

It’s pretty powerful stuff!

4. MAKE A PLAN

All great things usually start off with a plan!

Like they say, if we don’t know where we are going, how will we get there? Setting goals is a personal endeavor. Some people like old school pen and paper to scribble out their to-do lists every morning. Others use Google Docs to set up their plan. And then there are even the ones who need a visual mind map of sorts to see how it all contributes to the big picture. Whichever works for you, just commit to doing it.

Inking it does makes it feel more real and gives us something to reference.

Let yourself go wild. Dream Big!

5. WORK ON YOUR GOALS DAILY

I like to chunk down the big goal into mini-tasks. For example, if your big goal is to launch a rebranded website, you may have 10 mini-tasks to accomplish before that can happen.

Things like -

  • Rewrite your copy is so it engages your ideal client
  • Update your sales pages with modern graphics and a more user-friendly layout
  • Add professional photographs (bye-bye selfies)

When you break down the big goal into these bite-size nibbles, it’s so much easier to tackle.

Snacks anyone?

6. KEEP GOING

You hear a motivational speech and it gives you a burst of energy…which probably lasts a day or maybe even a week if you’re lucky! You start tackling the mini-tasks and then hit a snag, life happens, or there’s a fire that needs putting out STAT.

You’re not alone!

The most important thing, so you don’t landslide back into the land of procrastination and fear, is to get back at it and keep going.

There is a power in momentum — it’s like a wave, you need to ride that sucker hard before it loses steam. Cherish it when you’re in the zone. Really commit to carving out sacred space to give your business the time and attention it needs to thrive.

I like to schedule in blocks of time for this.

Change the settings in your scheduler, so no one can book during your “Development Block,” silence your phone, close down the slew of computer tabs open, and pedal to the medal until you check off those mini-tasks on your map.

Little by little, you will craft a new habit. You will train your brain to support you to stay focused and productive.

You can always reach out to a work peer to see if they’d be interested in being an “accountability buddy.” It helps when you’ve got someone to check-in with and keep the party going.

You’ve got this!

7. ENGAGE HOLISTICALLY

This is a big one! Engage holistically, what does that mean?

It means to be fully present with yourself and your business — mind, body, and spirit. Growth is a precious gift. It’s also a time when we may be more vulnerable than usual and get triggered easier. Don’t worry, it’s completely natural! For goodness sakes, you’re putting yourself out there in a whole new way for the world to see (no pressure). LOL

It’s really important to prepare for this time. You need a clear head and an open heart for all that it’s going to take to pull this off. You may need to hire a virtual assistant to support you by doing the day to day tasks like email response or social media scheduling. Or you may want to hire a cleaning service to lessen your load at home, to give you more time to replenish.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help, no matter how small or big it is.

Also, engaging with our physical body is intimately tied to our mind. Remember moving your body and connecting with the breath can release tension and free up stagnation.

Schedule in time every day for a 15-minute brisk walk in the sunshine and fresh air or a yoga session. I love Yoga Everyday on Gaia, an app that I installed on my TV. It has has a huge selection of well-curated yoga classes at your fingertips!

Soak in the elements of Nature (no electronics during this time, please).

Refresh with pure water to keep things flowing and smooth.

Give your soul time to rest as well.

Downtime is when we nourish on a cellular level. It enhances creativity and promotes overall well-being.

It’s OK to turn-off and go within, the world will still go round and round.

What’s your action plan now?

By following the above action plan, there’ll be no room for worry and doubt. It’s about daily practice. A step-by-step mindful strategy that will get you results if you implement it.

Creating a system around your primary goal will keep fear at bay and focus will be the new “F” word.

Soon, the stress and strain of “growing pains” will be converted into sass and confidence.

If you need help navigating, don’t hesitate to schedule a strategy session with me. Together we can map out a specific plan to guarantee you’ll reach your goals.

Until then…breathe joy.
